Description:
This newly built dwelling in Aberdeenshire was constructed for a private client through local builder Ewan Murray Construction Limited.

The design by J.W. Souttar is a four-bedroom house on 2 floors with intigrated double garage. The key requirement was to provide a roofing system to achieve the curved design which would be suitable for a flexible solar panel bonded to the sheet between the standing seams rather than mounted on brackets.

For the 288m2 roof covering we proposed the Catnic Urban roofing system manufactured by the Tata Steel Group. It consists of two curved standing seam roofs which are cruciform on plan. The works also included bespoke fabrication of faceted verge, fascia, arched soffits, gutters and downpipes, all in the same steel sheet. These were carefully site-measured by our installation team and drawn out in-house for fabrication provided by FAB 24, Glasgow. This created a seamless envelope from the roof through to the soffit and finished with powder coated aluminium gutters and downpipes. To ensure water-tight joints between the curved roofs at Valley’s we used Dryseal by Hambleside Danelaw, a GRP fiberglass roofing system.

During the installation the team were faced with many challenges to achieve curved details in all areas and maintain a weatherproof covering. We pride ourselves in working towards the best solution for all our projects and we are proud of how our team pulled together its skills, knowledge and experience to complete this build.

Achieving a workable detail for the design of the curved roofs required a huge amount of time and design knowledge for the calculations. This combined with an experienced and skilled installation team was the contributing factors which achieved this beautiful design with an outstanding quality finish.
